Pike County Elementary School students place in the region Literacy Days Competition!
Griffin Regional Educational Service Agency (RESA) is one of 16 intermediate agencies in Georgia, each serving a designated region of school districts. GRESA serves Butts, Fayette, Henry, Lamar, Newton, Pike, Spalding, and Upson school systems. The Literacy Days Competition takes place each year and is comprised of school winners from each district in this region. From that competition, the top three winners are recognized.
Students select and recite a poem with the following guidelines. Props and costumes are not allowed. Keep feet firmly on the ground; no stomping or tapping rhythm. Rely on the upper body, head, eyes, arms, and hands for emphasis. Voice and expression are important. The difficulty of the piece, based on vocabulary, theme, and length can earn from one (1) to four (4) points. Songs or lyrics are not allowed. Do not use excerpts cut from lengthy poems.
Ready Writing Contest
For the Ready Writing (grades 3-5 and 6-8) portion of the competition, a “live” writing prompt was provided by Griffin RESA to the system District Coordinators on a designated day, via a Zoom Meeting. While on Zoom, participants completed their writing piece, remotely. A member from Griffin RESA was live on the Zoom while the writing takes place and a proctor, chosen by the system District Coordinator, was present with the participants. These pieces of work were provided to Griffin RESA. They then evaluate and judge writing pieces remotely.
