Degrees and Certifications:

Mrs. Heather Stone

I am both honored and humbled to have been selected as Teacher of the Year at Pike County Elementary School. Looking at all of the teachers around me, there are so many that are so deserving. The job of an educator should never be overlooked! We work daily to provide for the children and love them unconditionally no matter where they are coming from, how much of a gap there is to close, or how advanced they may already be. Each student is unique in every way, and I am thankful that I get to be involved in watching children grow and succeed!

I graduated from Gordon State College in May of 2012 where I became dually certified in both general education and special education (P-5). I have a special education endorsement that allows me to teach P-12. In the fall of 2012, I began working at PCES in a co-teach and resource setting. Pike County is the only school system that I have taught at, and I am very blessed to work with such amazing people surrounding me. I have taught grades 3 through 5 at Pike County Elementary School and have loved each group have come through! August 2013, I started my journey getting my Master’s Degree in Teacher Leadership. From there, I continued on to get my Specialist’s Degree in Curriculum and Instruction. Along with school and teaching full time, I also married my husband, Tucker, in 2012. Since then, we have had two sweet children, Jase (age 3) and Tessa (age 1). There has not been a dull moment, and I would not trade any of it for the world.

Being an educator has always been my dream. As a teenager, I fell in love with children with disabilities. A child near and dear to my heart had Cerebral Palsy. Although he was unable to communicate verbally, or do anything on his own for that matter, he was able to speak to us through his smile and laughs. I spent my summers babysitting him and watching his unique expressions when we talked to him, threw rocks onto the tin roof, and went for rides on the golf cart. At that point, I knew I wanted to work with students and make a difference in every way possible. Because of the supportive family around me, my sweet friends, and my encouraging co-workers, it has all been possible!
