Parents, Students and Community Members of Pike County,
The education of our students is the goal of every administrator, teacher and staff member of Pike County High School. As a result of this pursuit of excellence, PCHS has adopted a revised cell phone policy that will take effect January 6, 2020. It is the opinion of PCHS that cell phones directly compete with teachers for students’ attention creating distractions for students. In an attempt to lessen the impact of cell phones on the learning environment, we are asking that students no longer be in possession of cell phones during class. Students will be asked to place their cell phone in a secure cell phone hanger at the beginning of each class and then retrieve them at the end of each class period. Any time classes are not in session students will have full access to their cell phones including the time before and after school, during lunch and during all class changes. This policy will promote student focus, which will have a positive influence on their learning and grades. Technology, while a valuable instrument that will continue to be used as a classroom tool, must not hinder our students’ learning when not used in this capacity. Thank you for your support of Pike County High School, its staff and its students.
