Thanks, Pike County, for Helping to "Fill That Bus!"
The Pike County Backpack Program "Fill That Bus" food and fund raiser was a huge success. During the six day event, 25 community-minded volunteers worked shifts at the bus to receive food and financial donations.
Financial donations during the event totaled $719.00, and food donations totaled over 1000 food items of the estimated 18,000 needed for the 41 week school year.
Special thanks goes to the following:
Jackson Mechanical for supplying and erecting an air-conditioned tent for volunteers' and contributors' comfort on days with temperatures exceeding 90 degrees.
Pike County resident and bus driver Lloyd May for delivering a school bus to the event every day for six days.
Cindy Spangler for organizing and training the event volunteers.
Randy Huff, Ricky Shepherd, Haley Custer, Carson Whiteside, Fay Berryhill, Melanie Bramlett, and Michael Powell for making and posting inspirational videos on Facebook expressing their excitement about being involved in the Backpack Program.
And most importantly, our deepest and most heartfelt appreciation goes out to everyone that supported this event in whatever manner.
The Backpack program thrives when people contribute through one or more of the four Ms. The Backpack program needs your:
1. Mouth to tell others 2. Mind to think of ways to improve 3. Muscle to do the tasks 4. Money to buy the food for the children
The Pike County Backpack Program "Fill That Bus" food and fund raiser was hugely successful in receiving contributions in all four M's.
